Horwood House, Milton Keynes
How beautiful does the English countryside look with a smattering of snow? How elegant do some hotels look set in frosty Winter landscapes? (See gallery below.) Very much the Christmas card ideal, add some comfy sofas, an open fire and I could’ve settled in for the afternoon.
Horwood House is lovely. It’s been a Hayley Conference Centre, more recently a De Vere and now an independent hotel since 2019.
The new owners are looking to create a destination feel and have spent £6m refurbishing and upgrading the hotel.
Cooks Suite

The older part of the hotel, built in 1911, a Grade II listed Manor House is set for its refurbishment in early 2022 with completion due before April 2022. The original reception is to be turned into an elegant lounge to compliment the beautiful Manor Lounge function room.

The hotel sits in 38acres of grounds which includes two tennis courts, a walled garden (ideal for marquee events or activities, non-motorised), a lily pond and lovely Pytheas Gardens, but that’s no surprise as Horwood was also the birthplace of Percy Thrower (who people of a certain age will remember mainly from Blue Peter fame) whose father, Harry Thrower was the original Head Gardner and namesake of the hotel’s new Harry’s Bar and Kitchen.

The hotel has a mix of meeting rooms in the newer part of the hotel. The Cooks Suite is the largest suite with its own pre function space and, sitting one floor below, a range of 8 meeting rooms of various sizes ideal for smaller breakout rooms, office, storage or stand-alone smaller meetings.

Horwood House is warm and welcoming which was very much appreciated on a bitterly cold day!
